Posted November 6, 2024

The annual FYC Banquet was held on Saturday, November 2 in the evening at the Best Western Lamplighter Inn in the Chelsea Room.

Your MC was Jeff E.

A tasty buffet dinner was enjoyed after a sociable cocktail hour of fellowship, yarns, and tall tales.

The Racing Awards were handed out by Racing Officer John Kabel.  Congratulations to all of the Sailors!

A wonderful presentation was given by Kate Easton and John Santos about their almost 4 years of membership at FYC while here in London on a temporary basis.

In addition, a very special Certificate of Bravery was awarded to Mike Taylor and James Osgoode “In recognition of your quick thinking and bravery during the Club Championship, where you expertly assisted a couple who had tipped their canoe and were in distress. Your actions exemplify the spirit of our community”  Congratulations and Well Done Mike and James! (Commodore Stacey presents Mike with the Certificate in the photo below)

Finally, the Member(s) of the Year for 2024 Award was given to Kate Easton and John Santos for their dedication to volunteering at FYC over the past year. (in photo below on either side of J. Kabel with Trophy)

Recent Events:

  • Sadly this event has been cancelled for this year – We look for to holding this fun regatta next year. On Saturday, August 10, FYC with support from the Middlesex, London Kiwanis Club, will be hosting a Youth  “Thrills and Skills F/Un-Regatta”.  This is an all-day fun event for youth under 18.  An un-regatta is a non-traditional fun regatta that does not have the usual windward, leeward race format. Instead, it consists of activities which force the sailors to put their sailing skills to use in unusual, sometimes silly races. For example, they may have to race backwards, sail through an obstacle course or play a form of frisbee golf on the water. There will also be land-based activities like knot tying races, and contests to see who can rig a boat the fastest. All of the young sailors would be part of a team, so no one single sailor wins a race. Everything is a team effort.  Please click on the button below to go to the F/Un-Regatta Page
  • Saturday, June 8 & Sunday, June 9June Bug Regatta.  This regatta is an Open Regatta for racers from within and outside of FYC.  New to racing?  You’re more than welcome to come racing! Please Click the button below to go to the Regatta Page.
  • On Thursday, May 30th FYC hosted a New Member Information Night, where new members and potential new members from the Open House, can come out to the club for a more informative session in Doug MacKenzie Hall. Of course, all members are welcome to join to share their expertise and help new members feel welcome and supported. Click Here to view the Invitation.

Special Notice for August 6-9:  FYC members, licensees and other users will have to access Fanshawe Park from the North Gate off Fanshawe Park Road due to a private event at Fanshawe Dam!

Fanshawe Lake Water Levels are back to Normal! Aug 2

Thursday, August 1, 2024

FYC update: water levels are back to normal! Reminder that the Fanshawe Reservoir water level guage can be found here. Normal level is about 0.2m and the top of the main dock is about 0.70m.

Tuesday, July 30, 2024

FYC Members, look for an email from Commodore Stacey today on yet another High Water Notice from the UTRCA. The High Water team has been activated and will check the boats on the moorings.

For Racers, check emails for possible updates about racing Wednesday, July 31.

Tuesday, July 23, 2024  3.21pm

Fanshawe Conservation Area has announced via their Website and Facebook that the reservoir has Reopened!  They advise caution as there may be some debris remaining in the water.  Very good news indeed!  Look for Informal Racing on Wednesdays and Sundays to start up again this week!

Monday, July 22, 2024

The UTRCA has advised FYC that Fanshawe Lake will remain CLOSED tomorrow, Tuesday, July 23.  Stay tuned for more updates.

Thursday, July 18, 2024

Fanshawe Lake still closed.   Click Here to view the most recent Flood Bulletin from the UTRCA effective until July 22.

    • A Reminder from the Harbour Masters to FYC Members who have boats on the moorings:  While the High Water Team has been checking boats as the water rose, now, as the water recedes, it would be helpful to the Team if you can row out to your own boat and begin shortening up your bow painter. Once the lake levels are close to normal (about 30cm below the top of the main dock), then you can put your mooring chain back on your  boat. By that time, the mooring floats will all be above water again.  Make sure all attachment points for the primary pennant (chain) and secondary pennant (painter) are secure.  If you are not able to get to your own boat, please ask a friend at FYC to help you with this.

Here is an update on the water levels from the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority posted yesterday:

The heavy rain that fell across the Upper Thames River watershed last week created saturated soil conditions, making the watershed very reactive to further rain. The London area received extremely heavy, intense rainfall this morning, with some municipal rain gauges reporting 75 mm in the span of about 2 hours and other stations measuring closer to 50-60 mm.
Please read our media release for more information and exercise caution.
