Project - Want to Build Your Own Fun Sailboat? Build a Puddle Duck!
Posted January 31, 2025
The Puddle Duck (aka PD Racer) is a small, easy-to-build plywood sailboat that can be sailed by children or adults.
Sailors can make any modifications they want such as different sail shapes and sail cloth, or use a steering wheel instead of a tiller for steering! (see photo of the Mike V’s “Canuck Duck” below).
The PD Racer is the perfect craft to race in September’s “Plywood Classic Regatta”!
The basic plans can be found at https://www.pdracer.com/
Other picture is John V racing his Puddle Duck “Fins Up”.

This is just a small sample of the kinds of sites which offer advice for sailors. While they may offer a good overview of small boat sailing, there is nothing like gathering information from experienced sailors! Reach out to sailors on Wednesday nights or Sunday afternoons on the dock and offer to crew during the informal races. It’s a great way to learn the lines!
